Many elderly people face the proposition of leaving their homes in order to join senior living communities. This might be somewhat scary, as many feel their independence will be going out the window when living in such a place. However, this doesn’t have to be the case.
There are a number of senior living apartments which offer all the amenities a couple would want in order to still feel as if they’re in control of their own lives.
This piece will speak about the entire process of procuring a senior living apartment. From there, we will delve into what an apartment may possess — as well as how one would go about finding the perfect place.
Finding an Apartment
There are a number of different ways in which a couple or single individual may go about getting an apartment within the senior living parameters. For one, word of mouth is a very significant tool. The interested parties may have had friends who’ve decided to live within senior living communities. It would make sense to reach out to friends in order to get the real story on how they enjoy living in these environments.
Secondly, there are a number of websites which specifically list senior living apartments. One can filter these websites by location and monthly rate. Each listing will normally have a profile — showcasing pictures and information of the dwelling.
Third, one can reach out to an actual senior living community themselves. Traditionally, tours are available for people to get a real sense of the apartment and all that the community has to offer.
Amenities
The potential amenities within a senior living apartment do vary from place to place. Some of the apartments will be furnished — while others won’t be. Each community has different means of support. There are situations in which couples/individuals can get immediate help if needed.
More expensive options may include resort-like features — such as a pool, salon, spa, restaurants, 24-hour concierge, grocery shopping/delivery, transportation services, and fitness areas.
Comprehensive research must be done in order to fully become comfortable with a specific home/housing complex.
Cost
The costs for these apartments do vary (as they often will for a normal apartment). Some may cost as low as $400 a month. This could include a meal plan. However, there are also more expensive options — especially if those options are multiple bedrooms. Luxury senior living apartments could cost upwards of $6,000 a month.
Along with daily meals, those in these situations might be eligible for health care, memory care, assisted living, and a number of other services.
